A lot of it is simply supply and demand.
There is fixed supply and demand is exceeding that, so prices go up.
It mainly started the upward trend when smartphones switched over from DDR3 to DDR4 driving demand way, way up.
Meanwhile, the RAM manufacturers kept supply pretty much the same, so price just kept going up..
